COMIC Australia Foundation Incorporated
Following the recent Media Release which was distributed throughout our network shortly
after the Launch on 29 April 2008 of The COMIC (Children Of Mentally Ill Consumers)
Australia Foundation Incorporated we would like to advise what goals the Foundation would
like to achieve.
The Foundation aims to build on the work over the past eight years by the Co-founders
of COMIC which was established on 18 February 2000. Although based in South Australia
the Foundation has a national perspective and aims to develop a broader organisational base.

Goals of the Foundation are:
To advocate and lobby for the special needs of children of mentally ill consumers;
To raise awareness about the issues that these children face and educate the community;
To promote the recognition of the needs of children of mentally ill consumers
within the mental health, education and other relevant service systems;
To establish COMIC Houses which will provide accommodation and respite for
children whose parents become unwell or are hospitalized;
To raise funds through a range of activities including corporate and philanthropic
sponsorship.
A Committee and Reference Group have been established to lead the development and
an implementation of the programs, services and activities of the Foundation. The focus
will be to build sustainable strategic and practical capacity. The COMIC Australia Foundation
aims to continue to increase community awareness of the needs of children of mentally
ill consumers and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.
The COMIC Foundation of Australia is seeking participants aged 13 to 25, who are
looking to connect with other young people who are in a similar situation.
